Or: One-Goal Loss, a Road Trip to CSLA, and a Stadium Blanket for Kickoff
By Thomas Seest, Dunlap.Today Β· Friday, October 16, 2026
The score is in. The season isn’t over. And the stadium needs a blanket tonight.
Here’s today’s High School Sports & Youth brief: CSAS beat Sequatchie County 4β3 in the District 4-A girls soccer final Thursday night. The Lady Indians are now 14-2-1; CSAS is 9-7-1 with seven straight wins. MaxPreps already has the next step: Sequatchie County at CSLA, Tuesday, Oct. 20, 7 p.m. β that’s the District 4 runner-up vs. the District 3 champion. CSAS, as District 4 champ, draws McMinn Central the same night (site still TBD). Homecoming vs. Community (0β8) is tonight at 7 p.m., with a cold front already moving in. And a neighbor result worth celebrating: Bledsoe volleyball won its Trousdale County sectional 3β2 and is headed to state.
β±οΈ What this means for you in 30 seconds
- LAST NIGHT, soccer: CSAS 4, Sequatchie County 3. Seven-game win streak snapped. Record now 14-2-1.
- NEXT, region: Lady Indians at CSLA Tue., Oct. 20, 7 p.m. (MaxPreps). CSAS vs. McMinn Central same night; site TBD. Next region round Thu., Oct. 22 if advancing.
- TONIGHT, football: Community (0β8) at Sequatchie County (4β3, 2β1), 7 p.m., homecoming. Parade was 9:30 a.m.; pep 2:15; Alumnus of the Year 6:30; court at half.
- Tonight’s weather: High fell from near 80 toward the 60s this afternoon. Night near 45, north gusts up to 30. Saturday high only 60.
- Neighbor clocks: Grundy at Bledsoe = 7 p.m. CT (TSSAA + Dunlap.Today; MaxPreps still shows 8 CDT β trust TSSAA). Sale Creek at South Pittsburg: still 7 vs. 8; call ahead.
- Bonus: Bledsoe volleyball 3β2 at Trousdale County β state in Murfreesboro Oct. 20β23. YE Day Sat. 9β1.
β½ Last Night: CSAS 4, Sequatchie County 3

MaxPreps posted the result overnight and updated both schedules this morning: Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences 4, Sequatchie County 3, Thursday, Oct. 15, listed at 7:00 p.m. It was a district tournament final. The Lady Indians’ seven-game win streak is over. Season record is now 14-2-1 (still 4-0 in district, first place). CSAS is 9-7-1 (4-1 district, second) and has won seven straight.
The only prior meeting this season was Sequatchie 1, CSAS 0 on Sept. 8 in Dunlap. Thursday’s rematch went the other way by a goal. No detailed box score beyond the final was in the sources we checked this morning, so we’re not inventing goal scorers or minute-by-minute drama.
What it means for you: One-goal losses sting, especially at home in a final. The good news is Class A structure: both finalists advance. Pack the car for Tuesday β this isn’t the last game.

πΊοΈ Region Tuesday: At CSLA, 7 p.m. on MaxPreps

TSSAA’s Class A region bracket still puts District 4 on the field Tuesday, Oct. 20: District 4 winner vs. District 3 runner-up, and District 3 winner vs. District 4 runner-up. The next region round is Thursday, Oct. 22; sectionals are Saturday, Oct. 24.
Here’s what crystallized overnight:
- Sequatchie County (D4 runner-up) at CSLA (D3 champion) β MaxPreps now lists Tue., Oct. 20, 7:00 p.m. at CSLA. That’s the first hard site/time we’ve seen for the Lady Indians’ side.
- CSAS (D4 champion) vs. McMinn Central (D3 runner-up) β same night per the TSSAA bracket pattern and yesterday’s Daily Post-Athenian reporting. CSAS’s MaxPreps schedule does not yet show a next opponent or site, so treat that kickoff as TBD until it posts.
TSSAA’s participating-schools list for this event already includes CSLA and McMinn Central, which matches the pairing. CSLA is a Chattanooga school on Eastern time β if MaxPreps’s 7 p.m. is Eastern, that’s 6 p.m. Central. We can’t confirm the zone from the listing alone, so plan to leave Dunlap early enough for a 6 p.m. CT start until the school or TSSAA posts a clearer note.
What it means for you: Hold Tuesday evening. Don’t book dinner plans you can’t move. Recheck MaxPreps and the school athletics page Monday night for any site or time change.

π Homecoming Tonight: Court, Kickoff, Cold Front

Friday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m., Community at Sequatchie County. CoachT, MaxPreps, TSSAA and the school’s homecoming posts all say 7. Community is still 0β8 (0β3 in Region 4-3A) and has scored 33 points all season, per MaxPreps. The Indians are 4β3, 2β1 and third in the region β a win helps playoff position before next week’s trip to Walker Valley.
The homecoming court (school announcement via Dunlap.Today): senior queen candidates Diana Alarcon-Landeros, Ashtyn Douglas, Kenzie Henley and Ainsley Pickett; class reps Ella Spralls (junior), Jasmine West (sophomore), Denali Caldwell (freshman). Winners at halftime.
Today’s timeline from the homecoming-week schedule: food-drive judging 8 a.m. Parade 9:30 a.m. (curb by ~9). Pep rally 2:15 p.m. Alumnus of the Year 6:30 p.m. Kickoff 7.
Weather (NWS Dunlap, updated ~6:05 a.m. CT): Friday’s high near 80, then falling toward the low 60s by late afternoon with west-to-north wind gusting near 25. Tonight mostly cloudy, low around 45, north gusts as high as 30. Saturday high near 60; Saturday night around 38. First Plateau frost is likely Sunday morning.
What it means for you: If the parade already happened this morning, you’re on the pep-rally / stadium half of the day. Pack the blanket and a windbreaker β last night’s soccer weather is gone. For pregame talk, Sequatchie Sports Network runs 8β10 a.m. on Countryroads 93.3.

π» Friday Neighbors: Pikeville Settled, Jasper Still Fuzzy

- Grundy County at Bledsoe County: 7 p.m. Central. TSSAA lists 7:00 for both schools. Dunlap.Today’s Friday preview says 7:00 p.m. at BCHS. Local 3’s Game of the Week piece listed “8:00 pm (ET),” which is the same hour. MaxPreps still shows 8:00 p.m. CDT this morning β treat that as the same old zone confusion and go with TSSAA / Dunlap.Today at 7 CT. Bledsoe is about 5β2; Grundy about 6β2 depending which board you check.
- Sale Creek at South Pittsburg: still call ahead. TSSAA schedules for both schools and MaxPreps say 8:00 PM. CoachT still says 7:00. Sale Creek is Eastern; Jasper is Central. Nobody has closed the gap overnight. The Pirates are 6β1.
- Marion County and Whitwell are both off tonight. Next: Marion at Cascade and Jo Byrns at Whitwell, both Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. per TSSAA.
Giles County, one line: Still Fri., Oct. 30 on TSSAA and MaxPreps (outside this week’s window). Only CoachT says Thu., Oct. 29.
What it means for you: Heading to Pikeville? Plan on 7 Central. Heading to Jasper? Call the school or check the stadium board β we’re not guessing which of the two times is right.

π Neighbor Result: Bledsoe Volleyball Is Going to State

Yesterday’s preview said Bledsoe County volleyball had a Class A sectional at Trousdale County at 7. MaxPreps now shows the result: Bledsoe won 3β2 at Trousdale County on Thursday, Oct. 15. The Lady Warriors are 30-9 with a two-match win streak after the region final loss to Eagleville. That berth sends them to the Division I Class A state tournament in Murfreesboro, Oct. 20β23.
Lady Indians volleyball still has no newer MaxPreps update past early October in the sources we checked.
What it means for you: If you’ve got Pikeville family, start checking the TSSAA state bracket for pool play times. That’s a weekday drive to Murfreesboro β carpool early.
