Local Family Seeks Community Support Ahead of June 17th Arrival

A Van Buren County family is reaching out to the community for donations of household items and supplies as they prepare to welcome family members arriving on June 17th. With limited luggage capacity—each arriving family member is permitted only one suitcase—the family hopes to have their home fully equipped to help their relatives transition smoothly into their new life.

“It takes a village to help a family,” said Melanie Stieger, who posted the request on the Van Buren County Community Bulletin Facebook group. “We want to make it as easy as possible for them to get into the flow of things, find a job, and get working.”

The family has compiled a comprehensive wish list of items needed to set up their household. Major appliances top the list, including a washing machine and dryer. Furniture needs include three bedroom dressers, one bedside table, and four bar stools for the kitchen counter. The family also seeks a television and three small rugs for the bedrooms.

Kitchen essentials are another priority, with requests for pots, pans, sharp knives, wooden spoons, and dishcloths. The family is also seeking a vacuum cleaner and various non-perishable food items including pasta, rice, tinned tomatoes, beans, coffee, tea, spices, and other pantry staples.

Toiletries and household linens round out the list, including five bath towels, two bath mats, and items such as toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and sanitary products. The family also welcomes books, board games, and cards suitable for teenagers ages 13, 16, and 18.

Community members interested in donating items can arrange drop-off at Stieger’s home or contact her to arrange pickup. The family expressed gratitude to those who have already contributed, emphasizing that community support will help their arriving relatives establish themselves and begin working as quickly as possible.
