Or: The Parade’s Swept Up, the Scoreboard Says 50-7, and the Kids Are Selling at the Market

By Thomas Seest, Dunlap.Today Β· Saturday, October 17, 2026

Good morning. The parade candy has been counted, the purple and gold is in the wash, and Sequatchie County had itself a homecoming to remember.

This is the Saturday porch talk β€” a slower one. No alarm clocks, no dress-up themes. Just the good news from the week and a short, calm list for Monday.

Here’s what happened and what’s next: the Indians beat Community 50-7 on homecoming night, leading 44-0 at the half and moving to 5-3. Next up is a trip to Walker Valley on Friday, Oct. 23. Five middle schoolers earned this week’s Brave-O Awards. Young sellers run their own tables at the Dunlap Farmers Market’s Young Entrepreneurs Day, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. The Lady Indians stand at 14-2-1. Seniors have a free ACT window Oct. 19–23 and a Nov. 2 TN Promise deadline. And every county is back in class Monday on a sunny, chilly morning.

⏱️ What this means for you in 30 seconds

  • Final: Sequatchie County 50, Community 7. Indians are 5-3, 3-1 in district play.
  • Next game: at Walker Valley, Fri., Oct. 23. Home again Oct. 30 vs. Giles County.
  • Student wins: SCMS Brave-O Awards went to five students for kindness, effort and character.

🏈 Homecoming Night: Indians 50, Community 7

MaxPreps’ game recap says the Indians “simply couldn’t be stopped” Friday night, beating the Community Vikings 50-7 in Dunlap. Sequatchie County led 44-0 at halftime. The 50 points are the team’s highest score of the season. The Indians have now won three of their last four games, averaging about 40 points over that stretch, and stand at 5-3 overall and 3-1 in district play, according to MaxPreps.

Homecoming court winners were set to be announced at halftime. We haven’t seen the official results posted yet, so we’ll share them once the school does.

What it means for you: Homecoming worked the way it should β€” a full morning at the curb and a happy ride home. If you know a player, a band member or a court nominee, a quick “y’all did great” is worth more than a trophy this weekend.
