🐢 Free Turtle Available with Tank and Food – Community Weighs In on Pet Care

A local resident is offering a free pet turtle, complete with tank and food, to a new home. The offer has sparked community conversation about responsible pet ownership and the needs of these long-lived animals.

📍 What’s Being Offered

The turtle comes with its existing tank setup and food supply, removing some of the initial barriers to adoption. 🏠 For someone interested in reptile care, the package provides a ready-to-go starting point.

💡 Community Advice on Turtle Care

Community members have offered important guidance for anyone considering the offer. One concern raised is the species’ status in Tennessee – the turtle is an invasive species in the state, and residents are cautioning against releasing it into the wild. ⚠️ One local turtle owner, who has cared for their pet since age 15 and now has a 6-year-old turtle, emphasized that these animals require significantly more care than many people expect, noting their long lifespans and specific needs.

🎓 Potential Home at Local Schools

A community member suggested checking with local schools to see if educators might be interested in the turtle for classroom use, where it could serve an educational purpose for students. 📚 This idea reflects how community members are thinking creatively about placement options that could benefit both the animal and the broader community.

Anyone interested in adopting the turtle is encouraged to reach out through the community group where the offer was posted, and to consider the long-term commitment and care requirements involved in turtle ownership.
