🍽️ Food Security Class for Older Adults Comes to Sequatchie County
As food insecurity continues to rise across rural Tennessee, Agricultural Extension Services in Dunlap is bringing a focused educational program to help older adults navigate budgeting, nutrition, and community resources that support independent living.
📍 What’s Being Offered
Agricultural Extension Services is hosting a special class called “Food for All”-part of the EGO (Everybody Gets Older) program through the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. The session will explore food insecurity, practical budgeting strategies, and local community resources designed to help older adults maintain healthy, independent lifestyles. 🎓
The program recognizes that food insecurity isn’t always obvious or straightforward, but it remains a pressing concern for many households in the region. By connecting participants with both practical knowledge and available support systems, the class aims to build confidence and resilience around food access and financial planning.
🗓️ When and How to Register
The class takes place on November 12th, 2026, from 5 to 6 PM at the Sequatchie County UT Extension Office on Church Street in Dunlap. ⏰
Space is limited to 10 participants, so advance registration is required. Interested older adults should call 423-949-2611 to sign up. Those with questions can also reach out to Kailee Flowers at kflowe12@utk.edu.
💡 Why This Matters Locally
Rural counties across the Cumberland Plateau and Sequatchie Valley face unique challenges when it comes to food access and economic stability for seniors. Agricultural Extension Services programs like this one translate university research and expertise into practical, community-based support-helping residents stay healthy and independent in their own homes and communities. ✨
