🎉 Ben Lomand Connect Celebrates Greg McCaskey's 26-Year Career and Retirement
Greg McCaskey’s quarter-century with Ben Lomand Connect represents the kind of steady, skilled work that keeps rural telecommunications infrastructure running across Middle Tennessee. His retirement marks a significant milestone for the cooperative and a new chapter for a Sparta native who spent his career building and maintaining the fiber-optic networks that connect communities throughout the region.
π A Career Built on Service
McCaskey began his journey at Ben Lomand Connect in 2000 as a line worker, bringing hands-on expertise to the cooperative’s growing network. Over the next two decades, he advanced through several key roles-becoming a Construction Technician in 2002, then moving to Install/Repair work in his hometown of Sparta in 2003. By 2004, he had specialized in Cable/Fiber Technician work, a position he held for the remainder of his career. π§ His focus on fiber optics placed him at the heart of the cooperative’s modernization efforts, as rural broadband infrastructure became increasingly vital to regional economic development and quality of life.
β Recognition and Community Impact
Ben Lomand Connect honored McCaskey’s contributions with a formal retirement ceremony held on Tuesday morning at the cooperative’s Outside Plant facility. The recognition reflects the cooperative’s culture of valuing long-term employees and acknowledging the technical expertise required to maintain reliable telecommunications service across the region. πΌ For residents and businesses in Sparta and surrounding areas who depend on fiber-optic connectivity, McCaskey’s work has been part of the invisible infrastructure that enables everything from remote work to telemedicine to small-business operations.
π What’s Next
McCaskey joins Ben Lomand Connect‘s growing retiree family, a testament to the cooperative’s commitment to employee longevity and stability. His departure also underscores the ongoing need for skilled technicians in rural telecommunications-a field where experience and specialized knowledge remain essential as communities continue to upgrade and expand broadband access. β¨
