💊 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Comes to Sparta on October 24
Sparta residents will have a safe, convenient way to dispose of expired and unused medications this fall. The community is invited to participate in a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event designed to keep old prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs out of homes and out of harm’s way.
π Event Details
The take-back event is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sparta Drug Center, located at 425 N. Spring Street in Sparta. β¨ Residents can bring any old, leftover, or unused medications-prescription or over-the-counter-to drop off in designated dropboxes for proper disposal.
π‘οΈ Why This Matters
Unused and expired medications sitting in home medicine cabinets pose real risks to families and communities. According to the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day campaign, most abused prescription drugs come from family and friends-often without the owner’s knowledge. Proper disposal prevents medications from being misused, accidentally ingested by children or pets, or contaminating water supplies. π
Take Back Day events give residents a straightforward way to participate in community health and safety without hassle or judgment. No questions are asked, and the process is free.
π‘ What to Bring
Residents should bring any prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, or combination of both. Liquid medications, patches, inhalers, and tablets are all accepted. For more information about the event or to find additional take-back locations nationwide, residents can visit www.dea.gov or call 800-882-9539.
